How many bears are allowed to be killed in Russia in a year?

We are preparing to launch the updated Register of Bear Extermination in Russia, which contains data on the number of quotas for bear hunting for one hunting season (2026/2027). The data has been collected, and official regional decrees have been studied.

The situation is very grim. This is an absolute quantitative record—over 52,000 bears are permitted to be shot within one year. Such a scale has never been seen before.

I believe everyone is already aware of the recent events and knows what is happening: amidst bears emerging from the wild into human areas and a series of scandals, the information space has been flooded with fake news about aggressive bears, along with calls to increase the scale of their culling.

The regional governments themselves have started to speak about the urgent need to develop sports and recreational hunting, and have even begun allocating budget funds as rewards for the destruction of bears. As with the situation with wolves, our long-time allies are well aware of what is at stake.

In summary, regional officials have set an absolute quantitative record—this year, over 52,000 bears are allowed to be shot.
