Fragments of the world's protected system: we will show the status on the TFET interactive map
For our map of the future protected system (TFET), we will create a control panel where everyone can see the status of current reserves—those fragments of once-living ecosystems that states consider sufficient for nature protection. Over these, we will develop and overlay the boundaries of our Territories of Full Ecological Tranquility. Each person will be able to see this on a scale, visually understand the difference, and further explore the source data: projects with proposals to states.
We are currently working on integrating protected areas. By clicking on each zone, you will be able to see brief information about the reserve: its name and territorial size. It will not be possible to show everything completely, as the data varies. We will use unified international data and then manually run it through local databases, such as those from the Ministry of Natural Resources, to compile the boundaries. In any case, we will be able to accurately show approximate cores.
Additionally, I think we will later show both modes simultaneously: the old protected system and our proposed one (TFET). Existing reserves will essentially serve as the cores of future Territories of Tranquility.
The work is extensive and long-term, but we have already begun. A very important step! Meanwhile, I am studying materials collected during expeditions, retrieving scientific works on regions, and attempting to start forming the boundaries of the first TFET in Central Asia. We will see how successful we are. Simultaneously, I will understand what needs to be replaced in our methodology. I think we will remove a lot from there and rework the approach.
The new methodology for determining TFET boundaries will be published alongside the launch of the map with a full control panel, a combined data set on reserves, and an understanding of what can and should be done next!
We are working, comrades!
